I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend and caught the superb season finale of Succession! We had a lovely get together with friends and grilled some sweet corn and Trader Joe’s vegetable masala burgers - IMO the best veggie burgers. But of course, in v8well style we had some excellent seasonal produce doing the rounds as well. Also on the menu for the weekend - pav bhaji, Alison Roman’s The Stew, an elevated baked ziti with San Marzano tomatoes, and an elegant asparagus lemon butter pasta. It does sounds like we were in the kitchen most of the weekend but we took turns and also got some excellent sunshine!
It’s funny how in your late thirties, your idea of a great weekend changes to lots of great food, some good wine, and most importantly, lots of sleep so you can wake up early and work out or tend to energetic toddlers. And that’s ok with me.
It is going to be a busy week ahead prepping for my author event this Friday with Maggie Zhu of Omnivore’s Cookbook at the Yondu Culinary Studio!
Maggie’s cookbook, Chinese Homestyle, came out last October and is a completely vegan take on Chinese food. It is filled with delicious ideas for produce and some fantastic sauces and staples. We’re doing a cookbook tasting from both our books this Friday and will be cooking up a storm all week.
What's on the menu? I will be making bite-sized Avocado Toast on my Vegan Zucchini Bread, Cucumber Papdi Chaat, and Hazelnut Brownies! Maggie will be making her Sichuan Spicy Peanuts, Sesame Noodles and Vegetable Spring Rolls. As for drinks - floral teas from The Qi, beer from Tsingtao and wine will be served. Free samples of Yondu will be available to take home! We only have a few spots left so reserve your tickets at the link below! This is my first public event in NYC - I hope I get to meet some of you in the area.
More next week, xoxo
